The artist wants too much money or something so the negotiations drag on for months and months. Once they obtain distribution they re-license the same music (or different music) for theatrical release.Įven more exceedingly rare, a director and/or music supervisor will really want a specific song by a major artist. It's actually quite common for low budget productions to license music just for the film festivals. Occasionally, prior to major worldwide release, a film will screen at film festivals. During pre-production and production, which usually lasts at least several months to a year the music supervisor is working on getting all of the licensing deals in place and creating original music, the score, etc. I started my career working in tv/film production, then went to work for a film studio, and now I work in music licensing. Then they couldn't obtain the rights so they went in a different direction. More than likely these were songs that were being just being considered. I'm not sure where you heard these anecdotal stories. This is the most blatant experience I've had with the Mandela effect. In the comments below I found a ton of people that also remembered the same scene that I did, with the song Iris playing in the movie, yet, we all re-watched it and it isn't there. I looked up "Treasure Planet iris scene" on YouTube after but got nothing but a fan made compilation with the song playing. The goo goo dolls did have one song in the movie but Iris was not one of them. We took a break from watching the movie to eat breakfast and my wife started singing the song at the table, showing that the movie also reminded her of that song.Īnyway, I kept watching the movie waiting for that scene to happen and to hear that song, but it never came. I've seen it but its been over 10 years since the last time.Īnyway, the only thing I remembered about the movie was one scene where Jim Hawkins stands on the very front of the boat and the Goo Goo Dolls song "Iris" is playing as the boat sails off into space. I watched Disney's Treasure Planet (2002) this morning with my daughter. Your first violation will result in your post or comment being removed, with a warning. The Mandela Effect is a group of people realizing they remember something differently than is generally known to be fact - the most famous example of this would be the Berenstain/Berenstein bears. ![]()
